Regional Scholarships
David L. Boren, National Security Education Program (NSEP) Scholarships (new window)
Administered by the Institute of International Education/IIE, the Boren Scholarship supports undergraduate students focusing on geographical areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security. (The countries of Canada, Western Europe, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.) These U.S. government grants entail a service requirement upon graduation. Preference is given to students who study in particular countries, learn critical need languages, study abroad for longer periods of time, and who make a commitment to a career in federal service.
Japan
Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) (new window)
The Japan Student Services Organization offers a scholarship through the Student Exchange Support Program for short-term study in Japan. Students must be accepted to a Georgetown-sponsored exchange program in Japan for the semester or academic year. Applicants may not be Japanese citizens or dual Japanese/U.S. citizens.
ATJ Bridging Scholarship for Study in Japan (new window)
The ATJ Bridging Scholarship is available to undergraduate students who are US citizens or permanent residents studying in Japan for the semester or academic year. Students majoring in any field of study may apply, and Japanese language study is not a prerequisite.
Freeman-ASIA Scholarship (new window)
The Freeman-ASIA program is designed to support U.S.-based undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.
MEXT Scholarships (new window)
The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology offers scholarships to students who plan to study at Japanese Universities. Georgetown students may be eligible for the Undergraduate Student Scholarship, the Specialized Training College Scholarship, and the Japanese Studies Scholarship.
To be eligible for the Undergraduate Student Scholarship and Specialized Training, applicants must have plans to study abroad in Japan and be US Citizens. For the Japanese Studies Scholarship, applicants must be Japanese majors. Students who are not Japanese majors, but who wish to study a particular aspect of Japanese culture, should apply to JASSO for admission to the Short-term Student Exchange Promotion Program.
Germany

Italy
National Italian American Foundation (new window)
The NIAF awards scholarships ranging from $2500 to $10000 on the basis of academic merit to students in two categories of students:
General Category I:
Italian American students who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements. Area of study: open.
General Category II:
Those students from any ethnic background majoring or minoring in Italian language, Italian studies, Italian American studies or a related field, who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements.
United Kingdom
Lord Acton Memorial Scholarship (new window)
The purpose of the scholarship is to provide a deserving study abroad student with financial support to pursue academic study in the United Kingdom. The merit-based scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of the value of an international educational experience and who agrees to share with AASAP/UK members the ways in which the scholarship has helped to fulfill their academic and personal ambitions. The award will be £500 for a semester or term abroad, or £1,000 for a full year.
The winning student will be required to attend an AASAP/UK meeting to meet the membership, receive the award, and give a short presentation on the goals and objectives that will be made possible through this financial support. In addition, the scholarship recipient must provide a final written reflection on the impact of the scholarship on their study abroad experience, which will be uploaded to the Association website.
