Want a great way to see a day in the life of a Hoya Abroad? Check out the Office of Global Education’s #TakeoverTuesday on Snapchat! Each Tuesday during the academic year, a study abroad students takes over the OGE account to show the world their country of residence for the semester. While you may be studying for your midterm here in Georgetown, you can still experience a whole new world alongside your fellow Hoyas. If you are still thinking about where to study abroad, tune in to get a taste of programs across the globe.
Here are just a few highlights from last spring semester’s #TakeoverTuesdays:
Sofia SFS ‘19-Geneva, Switzerland
Bienvenue à Genève! In a day in the life of Sofia, she shows off this picturesque city located at the base of the Alps. Geneva is an international city containing the highest concentration of international organizations in the world. It was the perfect place for an SFS student like Sofia to deepen her understanding of diplomacy and international politics. Not only did she have an internship at the international headquarters of the UN, but she also studied with students from around the world.

Alejandra SFS ‘19-Yaounde, Cameroon
Welcome to a day in the life of Alejandra as she studies abroad in Yaounde, Cameroon. Alejandra was learning French, though there are over 200 different languages spoken throughout the country. Taking advantage of the beautiful and warm day, she shows us a park where she can buy her favorite snack-a beignet. Alejandra has a busy day absorbing culture and language, going from her French classes back home to spend some quality time with her host family.

Jessie COL ‘19-Beijing, China
Welcome to the ancient city! Jessie studied Chinese at Peking University in Beijing. Showcasing differences between Beijing and Georgetown, she presents us new foods and changes of scenery, including tranquil Weiming Lake. Mandarin is not an easy language, and Jessie makes sure to let us know that studying language is an important part of her abroad experience. She addresses stereotypes people have of China and tells us how about her experiences with these cultural differences.

Esther COL ‘19 Belfast, Northern Ireland
Top of the morning in rainy but beautiful Belfast! Esther starts her day showing us the charming streets of Belfast before starting her day’s adventure. On days when Esther doesn’t have class she takes the opportunity to explore her new home, walking around the Botanic Gardens and even getting a little lost, but that is all part of the experience! She says that Belfast is a very friendly city, and introduces us to new friends.
